Biographical history
Tanya Acorn, daughter of E. Frank "Duck" Acorn (c. 1911-1998) and Florence "Tillie" E. MacKay Acorn (c. 1921-2002), of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, is a resident of Tantallon, Nova Scotia. Frank's father Ed Acorn opened Ed's Taxi in Charlottetown in 1920, and Frank ran the taxi service from 1948 until 1989 when he sold the company to Aubrey B. Ferguson. Frank also acted as secretary for the Charlottetown Driving Park for a time. Tanya's mother Florence was employed at Reddin Bros. Drug Store on Richmond Street in Charlottetown from 1938 until its closure in 1977. During her almost forty years at Reddin Brothers, Leo M. Doucette and Roy M. Smallman were the owners and pharmacists.
Custodial history
This material was in the possession of the donor's parents, Frank and Florence Acorn, until their deaths in 1998 and 2002, respectively.
Scope and content
The collection consists five account books (1920-1930) from Reddin Bros. Drug Store on Richmond Street in Charlottetown, as well as a sixth account book (1882-1892) which may have also come from the same company which was founded by Dennis O'Meara Reddin, Jr. in 1882. The collection also includes a list of charter members of an unidentified club dated 1966. Although the name of the club is not given, the illustrations indicate it was likely a curling organization. Finally, the collection contains three photographs, including one of a military band (n. d.), the West Kent Football Team Interscholastic Champions (1928), and the Charlottetown Driving Park (1948).
