Cathy McCormack, Early Childhood Programs Administrator with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, is the latest recipient of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration, says Honourable H. Frank Lewis, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island.

“Over her career, Cathy has been instrumental in bringing community and government together,” said Lieutenant Governor Frank Lewis. “Through her commitment to collaboration, developing relationships and building community capacity, Cathy has made contributions to our community that will be sustained over the long term.”

The 2014 IPAC Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration was presented to Cathy McCormack during a ceremony at Government House on Wednesday. The presentation of the award was made by Lieutenant Governor Frank Lewis and President of the Prince Edward Island Regional Group of IPAC Wendy MacDonald.

Cathy has served as a permanent public servant with the Prince Edward Island Civil Service from 1987 to today. Her distinguished and admirable career has come full circle. Cathy began as a front line early childhood educator in the early 1980’s, later taking on the position of Early Childhood Resource with the Province of PEI. During this time she was seconded twice, first to the role of Director of Vital Statistics and then to Learning Manager/Faculty with the Early Childhood Education and Care Program at Holland College.

“Cathy’s entire career has focused on the well-being of children,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Alan McIsaac. “Whether as an early childhood educator, public administrator, or as a faculty member, she has always held fast to making important decisions that benefited our youngest Islanders.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration recognizes the exceptional achievement of a person who has shown distinctive leadership in public administration. The award pays tribute to an individual whose career exhibits the highest standard of excellence, dedication, and accomplishment to the public service.
