New Provincial Archivist Appointed
Community and Cultural Affairs
Ms MacMicken-Wilson was educated at the University of Prince Edward Island and Queen’s University where she obtained a Masters degree in history. She has worked in the archival field for almost ten years and has been active in the Archives Council of Prince Edward Island as well as national organizations in the profession. Formerly employed as systems archivist at the Public Archives and Records Office, she has also worked for a number of years as a sessional lecturer at the University of Prince Edward Island.
The Public Archives and Records Office is responsible for collecting and preserving documentary history of the province, and for ensuring the documents are available to the public. In addition, the office is responsible for recorded information management of the provincial government. The reference services of the Public Archives are located in the George Coles building in Charlottetown.
“I am very pleased that Jill MacMicken-Wilson has accepted the position of provincial archivist and I welcome her to this important new role. I know she will serve the province well,” said Community and Cultural Affairs Minister Elmer MacFadyen. “I also want to take this opportunity to thank Marilyn Bell for her many years of dedicated service as archivist for the province of Prince Edward Island.”
