Designation of Canada Day for the purposes of the PEI Employment Standards Act

Environment, Labour and Justice

Government of Prince Edward Island has received a number of inquiries about the Employment Standards Act as July 1 falls on a Sunday this year.

In accordance with the federal Holidays Act, Prince Edward Island businesses are being advised that, for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act, July 2, not July 1, is considered a paid holiday and employees must be compensated accordingly.

Any questions concerning the Employment Standards Act should be directed to the Employment Standards Branch at 368-5550; toll-free at 1 800 333-4362.
