Construction well underway for new Spring Park School

Education and Early Childhood Development

Construction is well underway on the new K-6 Spring Park School, says Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Alan McIsaac.

“Staff and students at Spring Park will be returning to a new school by late Winter 2013,” said Premier Ghiz. “I would like to thank staff, students and parents for their patience over the past year. Ensuring our students have a safe and healthy learning environment is a top priority, which is why Government committed to replacing Spring Park last year after water infiltration issues were identified.”

Planning and design for the new 11 million dollar school was completed by W.D. Lawrence Architecture. The new school will accommodate a learning centre, resource centre, literacy centre, health services room, project-based learning studio, multi-purpose room, kitchen, teacher planning room, and meeting and convention rooms. Smartboards will be installed in the new classrooms along with FM sound reinforcement systems to help students with hearing disabilities. The new school will also have wireless capabilities throughout the building.

Construction began late Fall 2011 with the start of the foundation and the tendering process occurring over the Winter months. Brighton Construction, the construction manager for the project, has been able to maintain the schedule with the new school opening in late Winter 2013.
