HST public consultation information now available online

Finance and Energy

The feedback received from Islanders over the summer is being used to help guide the decisions that need to be made to implement a harmonized sales tax in Prince Edward Island, says Minister of Finance, Energy and Municipal Affairs, Wes Sheridan.

“I would like to thank all those who took time out to attend the meetings held over the summer,” said Minister Sheridan. “The discussions were thoughtful and covered many aspects of the implementation of a harmonized tax system. All the information has been compiled into a high level summary, which is now available online.”

Almost 400 Islanders attended the eight Business and Community Information Sessions that were held across the province. The information has been compiled, broken down by meeting and a summary has been prepared based on this information. This document is now available on the HST website at www.peihst.ca/links.

Minister Sheridan says these meetings were a great opportunity to hear view points from across the whole Island and says it is important for all participants to know that their time was well spent at these meetings and concerns were heard.

The presentations that were made by the HST Implementation Team at the Community and Business Information Sessions are also available on the HST website. As well, a number of industry associations, business sector organizations and special interest groups requested meetings specifically for their groups. Many of the presentations made during those meetings are also available on the HST website. All presentations can be found at www.peihst.ca/Presentations.
