Ministerial mandate letters released to public

Premier's Office

For the first time, ministerial mandate letters outlining the strategic priorities of departments have been posted online to enhance the transparency and accountability of government.

The mandate letters www.gov.pe.ca/premier/mandate-letters reflect the government’s priorities of People, Prosperity and Engagement and reflect the strategic policy focuses outlined in the government’s platform and Speech from the Throne.

“Releasing the ministerial mandate letters gives Islanders a greater sense of our government’s direction and enhances the accountability of the ministries to focus on those priorities that matter the most to Islanders,” said Premier Wade MacLauchlan.

The letters outline the specific priorities of each minister and department as government works to build a prosperous economy, developing a stronger society, and making fiscally strategic investments in frontline services.

The letters emphasize the need for departments to work together, the requirement for departments to conduct themselves in an accountable, transparent, and ethical manner, and government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility. All departments will work to increase opportunities for Islanders to engage in shaping the province’s future path and in carrying out the work of government.

“As a Government we are committed to openness and transparency, and to the highest standards of ethical conduct in our decision-making and governance processes,” said the Premier. “We will be accountable for our actions, and we will increase opportunities for Islanders to engage in shaping our future path and in carrying out the work of government.”
