Dr. Kim Critchley named Deputy Minister of Health and Wellness

Premier Wade MacLauchlan advised today that Dr. Kim Critchley has been named Deputy Minister of Health and Wellness.

A former UPEI Dean of Nursing, Dr. Critchley is currently the Dean and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Calgary – Qatar.

She will replace Dr. Michael Mayne who begins a new role as Chief Executive Officer of Health PEI on April 1st. Dr. Heather Morrison will serve as Acting Deputy Minister until Dr. Critchley begins on July 15, 2016.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Critchley to this critical role,” said the premier. “I am confident that we will benefit from her experience as a senior health leader and administrator, her commitment to collaboration, and her extensive knowledge of primary health care which aligns with our commitment to a greater emphasis on wellness.”

Dr. Kim A. Critchley was named Dean and Chief Executive Officer of University of Calgary – Qatar (UCQ), in January 2013. She came to UCQ from the University of Prince Edward Island School of Nursing where she served as Dean from 2004 to 2012. She has held adjunct appointments with the University of New Brunswick School of Nursing (Honorary Research Assistant), Dalhousie University and the Memorial University Department of Graduate Studies.

She earned a BSc Nursing from St. Francis Xavier University, a Master of Nursing from the University of Calgary, a Diploma of Primary Health Care and Quality Improvement from the University of Helsinki Department of Primary Health Care, and a PhD from the University of Helsinki Faculty of Medicine.

Her areas of research, frontline experience and professional expertise include primary health care, children’s health, Aboriginal health, and knowledge translation. Dr. Critchley has extensive peer-reviewed publications and scholarly presentations to her credit.
