Prince Edward Island Nurses' Union Negotiations Delayed

Health and Social Services

The Government of Prince Edward Island and the Prince Edward Island Nurses’ Union announced today that they have agreed to suspend current negotiations towards a collective agreement until the fall of 2005. Both parties agreed that they will be in a better position to continue negotiations when the new health and social services structures are in place and the transition issues have been addressed.

Government announced in the April 7th Budget Speech the reorganization of the health and social services system through the amalgamation of the four Regional Health Authorities, the Provincial Health Services Authority, and the Department of Health and Social Services into two new departments – the Department of Health and the Department of Social Services and Seniors.

The three-year collective agreement between the two parties expired on March 31, 2005. The parties had commenced negotiations towards a renewed collective agreement on March 30, 2005.
