Innovation PEI

The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of National Revenue, and the Honourable Robert Henderson, PEI Minister of Tourism and Culture, representing the Honourable Allen Roach, PEI Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning, today announced funding for an expansion to Trout River Industries Limited’s manufacturing facility.

“Our Government understands the key role companies like Trout River Industries Limited play in the economy of rural Prince Edward Island,” said Minister Shea on behalf of the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie. “Investments in rural Island-based businesses are investments in job creation, growth and long-term prosperity.”

The Government of Canada, through ACOA, has invested $213,690 to help modernize the newly expanded facility. The Government of Prince Edward Island, through the Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning, has invested an additional $213,689 to help with the expansion.

“The shuttle floor trailers built by Trout River Industries are meeting a real market need and providing valuable manufacturing jobs in rural Prince Edward Island,” said Minister Roach. “The government of Prince Edward Island is committed to backing businesses as they pursue opportunity, open new markets and create prosperity for people in our province.”

In addition, through the Digital Technology Adoption Pilot Program (DTAPP), Trout River Industries will receive up to $99,959 to invest in engineering services that will assist in integrating new digital automation technologies into their production system. The funding will also allow the client to hire a qualified engineer who has experience in working with digital technologies, automation, equipment design and industrial engineering. Delivered by the National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP), DTAPP is part of the Government of Canada’s Digital Economy Strategy.

“Trout River Industries designs, manufactures and distributes its unique belt unloading trailers worldwide,” said Harvey Stewart, President, Trout River Industries. “This company has grown to serve road building, waste management, environmental services, landscaping and agricultural sectors. Trout River’s trailers allow customers to safely unload a variety of materials-making the units more productive and profitable.”

Trout River Industries Limited has modernized and expanded its current manufacturing facility to improve production and efficiencies associated with the fabrication of its products. Through these improvements, Trout River Industries will be better equipped to accommodate the growing demand for its bulk transport hauling solutions.

Trout River Industries designs, develops and manufactures bulk transport hauling solutions including live bottom trailers and shuttle floor trailers for the bulk transport industry. These trailers are perceived to be safer than the traditional dump trailers.
