Province approves new investment in Montague Intermediate School

Education and Early Childhood Development

Music and industrial arts students will soon benefit from a new $1.3 million addition to Montague Intermediate School, says Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Alan McIsaac.

“Government was able to identify some of the funds from lower tender results on the Spring Park Elementary School and unused expenditures in the school repair budget,” said Minister McIsaac. “The expansion at Montague Intermediate was identified as a priority by the Eastern School District, and we are pleased that we are able to move forward on this project.”

The 6,100 square-foot addition will include new space for woodworking, metals and visual arts as well as an instructor’s office, a small computer lab and an expansion of the multipurpose room. The new band room will feature four practice rooms, a music instructor’s office and a sound studio.

“This is positive news for the community of Montague and surrounding areas,” said Allen Roach, Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister and MLA for the Montague-Kilmuir area. “This is another valuable investment in eastern Prince Edward Island, one that will greatly benefit the students and teachers at Montague Intermediate School.”

”Government has a number of requests for capital budget projects every year and we appreciate the patience and cooperation of Montague Intermediate students, staff and parents while we addressed a number of priorities that were presented by the school boards over the past few years, “ said Minister McIsaac.

It is expected that tenders will be called in late Fall 2012, with the expansion expected to be compete by Fall 2013.
