Federal and Provincial governments invest in enhancements to St. Peters Bay Community Centre
Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development
“Our Government, through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, is pleased to support communities like St. Peters Bay,” said Minister Shea. “These upgrades will benefit this community for years to come as they will strengthen the local economy and allow the Community of St. Peters Bay to continue to offer important services to its residents and visitors.”
The Government of Canada is investing $93,564 from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. The Government of Prince Edward Island is investing $50,200 from the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development.
“The provincial government is pleased to support renovations to make the former St. Peters school more functional for community use,” said Minister MacKinley. “Through the Island Community Fund we are revitalizing communities with infrastructure improvements and creating new economic and social opportunities for residents.”
These investments will help the Community of St. Peters Bay carry out upgrades and improvements to the former St. Peters School building. These improvements include a new sound system and security system, plumbing and electrical system upgrades, kitchen equipment, painting, as well as paving and entrance upgrades to provide wheelchair accessibility to the centre.
“Our Center is an important place for residents and visitors to St. Peters Bay,” said
Mr. MacInnis. “We look forward to providing much-needed office rental space, as well as spaces for conferences, weddings and other large gatherings. It will also address the community needs for recreation and fitness.”
In the Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced plans to further modernize Canada’s infrastructure by committing $150 million over two years for the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency is delivering the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund in Atlantic Canada with an allocation of $16.6 million over two years, of which $2.5 million will be invested in Prince Edward Island.
The Government of Prince Edward Island is delivering funds to eligible projects through the Island Community Fund, a multi-year funding commitment to address infrastructure needs in communities across the province.
