Community Legal Information Association is moving

Environment, Labour and Justice

After more than 25 years in the Sullivan Building at 16 Fitzroy Street in Charlottetown, the Community Legal Information Association of PEI (usually known as CLIA) is moving to a new location. CLIA will close at its current location, rooms 121 and 158 in the Sullivan Building, at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 17. The office will remain closed for a week and will reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 27, in room 111 at the Royalty Centre, 40 Enman Crescent in Charlottetown.

CLIA is a registered charity that many Islanders rely on to provide ready access to clear information about the laws and the justice system. The non-profit organization is designated by the Province of Prince Edward Island as their partner in a national network of public legal education and information centres that offer free help with legal matters. CLIA also administers an Island-wide Lawyer Referral Service on behalf of the Law Society of PEI.

“So many people are used to us being downtown that I expect many clients will still look for us in the provincial government complex,” said Executive Director, David Daughton. “We will not be offering telephone or walk-in service during the week of May 20-24, but our website – www.CLIAPEI.CA – never closes, and we are looking forward to welcoming clients at our Royalty Centre site once the move is complete.”

CLIA has a long-standing partnership with the Province of Prince Edward Island and receives significant in-kind support from the Department of Environment, Labour and Justice.
