“This is a great opportunity for Islanders to tell the Task Force how they feel about land use as it relates to water quality issues, protecting resource lands and natural areas, preserving landscapes and building sustainable communities,” said John Handrahan, chair of the Task Force. “The input will provide the Task Force with a greater understanding of public opinion on these issues as it establishes new direction for land use in the province.”

The Task Force held a series of public consultations earlier this year. It will be continuing these consultations this fall, with a final report to government in January. Provincial land use policies will set the direction for how land is used and how development takes place in Prince Edward Island.

“Land use policies can help us protect what we care about most and be more strategic about public and private investments,” said Mr. Handrahan.

The Task Force was established to develop detailed recommendations for land use policies and their implementation in a comprehensive planning framework. The current framework consists of 31 official plans which cover only 10 percent of the province. There is no comprehensive provincial land use policy.
