Three Prince Edward Island communities receive funds for upgrades to community facilities
Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #1 (Charlottetown), St. Nicholas and Goose River will all benefit from infrastructure funding to make necessary upgrades to their facilities.
Fisheries and Oceans Minister Gail Shea and PEI Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Ron MacKinley were in Charlottetown to announce a combined investment of $144,760 for three communities across Prince Edward Island to make needed infrastructure upgrades to community facilities.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #1 (Charlottetown), the Community of St. Nicholas and Goose River Community Centre Inc. are improving the energy efficiency and accessibility of their community facilities which will allow these groups to better serve the needs of residents and visitors.

• The Government of Canada invested a total of $102,100 in these projects through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. The Government of Prince Edward Island, through the Island Community Fund, invested $42,660 towards the upgrades.
• The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #1 (Charlottetown) will replace windows and doors and upgrade the heating system to improve energy efficiency at the facility as well as enhance accessibility by improving the floors, stairways, and entryways and renovations to the washrooms.
• The Community of St. Nicholas will upgrade the St. Nicholas Community Hall, by becoming more energy efficient, purchasing and installing an electric generator, and replacing the oil tank.
• Goose River Community Centre Inc. completed enhancements to the Community Centre by installing a new septic system and wheelchair accessible washrooms.
• In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Government of Canada announced plans to further modernize Canada’s infrastructure by committing $150 million over two years for the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund CIIF). ACOA has been delivering the CIIF in Atlantic Canada with an allocation of $16.6 million, of which $2.5 million was allotted to projects in Prince Edward Island.
• The Prince Edward Island Government is delivering funds to eligible infrastructure projects through the Island Community Fund, a multi-year funding commitment to address infrastructure needs in communities across the province.
