Prior to the building of the Presbyterian church in Hampton in 1888, this community was a preaching point on the Tryon/Bonshaw circuit which also ministered to the communities of DeSable and Appin Road. The amalgamation of the Tryon and Bonshaw circuits had taken place in 1865. In 1925, the Methodist and Presbyterian charges amalgamated to become part of the United Church of Canada and two separate United Church pastoral charges of Tryon and Hampton were organized.
